Thane Launches Early Monsoon Preparations with Massive Drain Cleaning Drive

Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) in Maharashtra has initiated its annual drain cleaning drive to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season. The drive, which began in the Mumbra area, is part of the city's comprehensive monsoon preparedness plan.

The initiative was officially launched at Amrit Nagar drain in Ward No. 32 by Thane Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar, in the presence of Opposition Leader Ashraf Shanu Pathan and local representatives. Mayor Pimpalolkar directed officials to ensure that the drain cleaning work across the city is completed by the end of May. This early start, unlike previous years, is intended to allow for timely completion and prevent waterlogging during the monsoon.

Civic officials have been instructed to ensure that silt removed from drains is not left on roadsides and is cleared immediately. Civic teams have also been asked to closely monitor the work in each ward. The Thane Mayor urged residents not to dump waste into open drains, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining a clean and safe environment.

In addition to the drain cleaning, a cleanliness campaign was carried out in the area. Roads were washed, and awareness programs were organized to promote the segregation of wet and dry waste. A street play was also performed to educate residents about proper waste management. Several civic officials, sanitation staff, and local residents participated in the program.

The officials expressed confidence that the early start would help complete the work smoothly before the monsoon arrives. A large-scale cleanliness campaign is underway in Thane as part of efforts to improve sanitation across the city. This campaign is being carried out under the vision of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, with leadership from Thane Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar and guidance from Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao. Local representatives are also extending their support in the drive.
