Thane News: Heavy Vehicle Restrictions on Ghodbunder Road Canceled Due to Rain Delay
Real Estate News:Thane: Heavy vehicles were initially restricted from using Ghodbunder Road from 12:01 AM on August 15 until 5:00 AM on August 18 due to planned bitumen repair work. However, this work was postponed due to heavy rainfall over the past three days. As a result, the Thane Traffic Police canceled the planned traffic diversions, and commuters can now use Ghodbunder Road as per their usual routes.

Commuters Allowed Normal Access

DCP Pankaj Shirshat of Thane Traffic said, “The notification issued on August 12 regarding restrictions on heavy vehicles using the Ghodbunder-Gaimukh Ghat Road has been canceled due to heavy rains, which prevented the repair work from proceeding. Vehicles and commuters are now allowed to use Ghodbunder Road without restrictions.”

Traffic police stated that no new dates for the restrictions have been announced yet. Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and stay updated through official traffic advisories.

Reason For Planned Repair Work

Restrictions were initially enforced by the traffic police to facilitate ongoing repair and upgrade work on the Gaimukh ghat on Ghodbunder Road stretch, according to an August 12 notification. A press release had outlined that asphalt and bitumen resurfacing on the Gaimukh Ghat section of Ghodbunder Road, originally scheduled between August 15 and 18, was postponed due to continuous heavy rainfall.

Daily Congestion Persists

The Gaimukh Ghat stretch is riddled with potholes, causing significant traffic congestion for commuters traveling from Thane to Gujarat, Mumbai, and Vasai-Virar. The potholes have led to delays, and daily commuters report that Ghodbunder Road remains heavily congested. Many suggest using the local train instead of road transport, as vehicles can be stranded on Ghodbunder Road for over an hour just to reach Fountain Hotel.
