The Pune Porsche Crash: A Web of Deceit and Corruption
Real Estate Pune:What seemed like any other accident in Pune's upscale Kalyani Nagar area on May 19, has now engulfed the entire family of high-profile real estate developer Vishal Agarwal. Doctors, police officials, politicians have also got embroiled in the controversy.

The accident has already put the teen's father, who was himself arrested in a dramatic manner while trying to evade cops, and his grandfather behind bars. Police are also on the lookout for the teen's mother, who is absconding, for allegedly swapping her blood sample with that of her son.

Software engineers Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24, hardly had an inkling what fate had in store for them when they went for dinner at a club on May 19. After having dinner, they were returning to their home in Pune when suddenly a speeding grey-coloured Porsche rammed into their bike. While Koshta died on the spot, Awadhiya succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital.

Behind the wheel was the 17-year-old son of prominent real-estate developer Vishal Agrawal. Two friends of the teen were also inside the luxury vehicle. An eyewitness said the teen was so drunk that even when he was thrashed by the crowd, \it had no effect on him\.

The police arrived within minutes at the spot and took the teen to the police station. However, what triggered the outrage was when the teen was let off on bail by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) within minutes. His punishment for taking the lives of two youths was just a 300-word essay on road mishaps and their solution.

A avalanche of outrage followed as people vented their anger on social media and residents also held a candlelight vigil for the deceased in Pune. The outrage gave way to fury after CCTV footage showed the juvenile and his friends consuming liquor in two bars before the crash.

Eventually, the minor's bail was cancelled and he was sent to an observation home. The police said they wanted the accused to be treated as an adult since it was a heinous crime.

The case got a fresh twist days later after the father of the teen alleged that their family driver was behind the wheel during the accident. The two friends of the teen also supported the statement. However, the attempt by Agrawal fell flat as police through CCTV footage found that the vehicle was taken out by the accused from his residence.

On May 25, the grandfather of the teen, Surendra Agrawal, was arrested after the family's driver alleged that he was wrongfully confined, threatened and told to take the blame for the accident. Surendra Agarwal is reportedly also facing trial in a shootout case for allegedly making payments to gangster Chhota Rajan.

On May 26, it emerged that the blood samples of the teen were not taken immediately after the crash, leading to questions if it was done to dilute the alcohol level in the blood. Two doctors from Sassoon Hospital, where the blood samples were taken, were arrested for manipulating the blood samples and the blood report.

The chapter got a new twist on Friday after police sources said the blood sample of the minor was swapped with that of his mother, Shivani Agrawal, at Sassoon General Hospital. The police are on the lookout for Shivani and the case might soon see the seventh arrest in the case.
