TMC Approves 1,200 Affordable Homes Near Thane Metro Stations

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has given the green light to a new affordable housing project near the upcoming Thane Metro stations at Wagle Estate and Kopri. The initiative will deliver 1,200 units aimed at middle-income groups and workers from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) belt.
PPP Model and EWS Quota
The project will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with 10% of the units reserved for economically weaker sections (EWS). This reservation is expected to make the scheme more inclusive while keeping the overall pricing within the reach of first-time buyers and industrial workers.
Transit-Oriented Development Focus
By locating the housing close to metro stations, TMC aims to promote transit-oriented development (TOD) and reduce dependence on private vehicles. The move is also part of a broader strategy to decongest central Thane and channel growth towards the eastern and northern corridors.
Industry observers believe the project will strengthen the mid-segment housing supply in Thane, especially for those employed in the nearby IT parks and manufacturing units. The metro connectivity is expected to enhance property appeal and support long-term price stability in the micro-markets of Wagle Estate and Kopri.
