Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Real Estate Worker in Mumbai
Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) A 33-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic hit-and-run incident on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) after a speeding dumper truck struck her scooter and fled the scene, officials reported on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Chanda Mane, was a resident of Jogeshwari East and worked at a real estate firm in the Bandra-Kurla Complex area of suburban Bandra. Chanda was known for her dedication and hard work, often traveling long distances to reach her workplace.
The accident occurred near the Vedant petrol pump on Friday at around 8:30 pm as she was returning home from a work site in Vikhroli. According to eyewitnesses, the dumper truck was speeding when it hit Chanda's scooter from behind, causing her to fall and be fatally run over. She was pronounced dead at Cooper Hospital.
Following a complaint filed by her brother, the MIDC police registered a case under Sections 106(1) (death by negligence), 281 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area in an effort to identify and apprehend the absconding driver.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with friends and colleagues mourning the loss of a beloved and respected individual. The real estate firm where Chanda worked has expressed deep sorrow and is providing support to her family during this difficult time.
