Tragic Suicide in Karnataka After Daughter's Elopement
Real Estate:A tragic incident unfolded in Karnataka’s Mysuru district, where a family of three died by suicide after their elder daughter eloped with her boyfriend. The deceased were identified as Mahadeva Swamy, 55, his wife Manjula, 45, and their younger daughter Harshitha, 20, residents of Budanur village in HD Kote taluk.

Swamy, who owned four acres of land and worked as a real estate agent in the locality, was deeply distraught by the elopement. According to the police, the elder daughter had informed the family that she was in love with a youth. Despite their objections, she fled with her boyfriend on Friday and informed them over the phone that she would marry him. The news quickly spread through the village, causing a great deal of distress among the family and the community.

Dejected and unable to cope with the situation, Swamy and his family left a four-page suicide note, stating that the family property must not be shared with their estranged daughter. The note also mentioned, “We do not want her to attend the funeral. We are responsible for our death. All the property must be transferred to my brother,” according to a police officer.

Around 4 am on Saturday, Swamy and his family went to the Hebbal reservoir. Concerned relatives and villagers, noticing that the family was missing, launched a search. They found a two-wheeler parked near the reservoir and three pairs of slippers on the banks. The HD Kote police were alerted, and they, along with fire services officials, conducted a search operation. All three bodies were recovered from the reservoir.

Before taking the extreme step, Swamy had transferred some amount of money via digital payment to people he owed money to. He had also invited some relatives to his house on Sunday, further adding to the shock and sorrow of the community.

The final rites of the three deceased were performed in the village on Sunday. The estranged daughter did not attend the rites, as per the family's wishes and the content of the suicide note. The incident has left the village in deep mourning and has sparked discussions about the pressures and emotional tolls that can lead to such tragic outcomes.
