The family was deeply distressed after their elder daughter eloped with her boyfriend, despite their objections. The shock and emotional turmoil led them to this tragic decision.
The note stated that the family property must not be shared with the estranged daughter and that they did not want her to attend the funeral. They also mentioned that they were responsible for their deaths and that all property should be transferred to Swamy's brother.
The family went to the Hebbal reservoir around 4 am on Saturday, where their bodies were later recovered.
Before taking the extreme step, Swamy transferred some amount of money via digital payment to people he owed money to and invited some relatives to his house on Sunday.
The estranged daughter did not attend the funeral rites as per the family's wishes and the content of the suicide note. The incident has left the community in deep mourning and shock.
