Union Government Extends Smart Cities Mission Deadline to March 2025
Real Estate News:In a recent move, the Union Government has extended the deadline for the Smart Cities Mission to March 2025, following an appeal by Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The Chief Minister had requested the Central government to extend the deadline till June 2025, citing the need to complete the ongoing projects under the mission. The initial deadline for the mission was set to end in June 2024.

Under the Smart Cities Mission, several works have been taken up in Warangal and Karimnagar in Telangana. In Warangal, 45 works have already been completed, while another 66 projects worth Rs 518 crore are underway. In Karimnagar, 25 works have been completed, and another 22 projects worth Rs 287 crore are in progress.

The Centre has clarified that the approved works will continue, and no new projects will be sanctioned. The funds for ongoing projects will be released on a first-come, first-served basis till September 2024. The Centre has also advised completing the projects at the earliest.

The Smart Cities Mission was launched in 2015 with the aim of developing 100 smart cities across India. The mission focuses on providing core infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment, and quality of life to citizens.

The extension of the deadline is expected to provide relief to the states and cities that are implementing the mission. It will also enable them to complete the ongoing projects and deliver the benefits of the mission to the citizens.
