Real Estate:A controversy has erupted involving Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy and former MLC Ramesh Gowda, who have been accused of extortion and issuing life threats to a businessman and realtor, Vijaya Tata. The Amruthahalli Police have registered an FIR against the duo, numbered 292, following Tata's complaint. According to the complaint,

Gowda visited Tata's house on August 24 and demanded Rs 50 crore for election expenses for the Channapatna by-election, which was won by Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of HD Kumaraswamy. When Tata expressed his inability to pay the amount, Kumaraswamy allegedly threatened him, stating that it would be difficult for him to live in Bengaluru if he didn't comply.

Ramesh Gowda, who was present during the conversation, also demanded Rs 5 crore for building a temple and a school, warning Tata that he would face problems if he didn't pay up. The police have registered a case under section 308(2) (extortion), section 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and section 3 of the BNS.
