The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the murder, alleging that Baba Siddique had ties with Bollywood actor Salman Khan and underworld figures Dawood Ibrahim and Anuj Thapan.
The rivalry stemmed from the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, where Salman Khan was accused of killing two blackbucks, which are sacred to the Bishnoi community.
Baba Siddique was shot near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra on Saturday. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Salman Khan has heightened his security, receiving Y+ category protection and applying for a firearm license due to threats from the Bishnoi gang.
Three assailants were involved in Baba Siddique's murder. Two of them have been taken into custody, while one remains at large.
