The main issue is a payment of Rs 2.89 lakh made in 1993 for a flat in a proposed housing project on Ghodbunder Road, Thane, which was never completed.
The directors of the builder firm involved in the case are Sanjay Jain and Sanjay Shah.
A private complaint was filed before a local court, which directed the police to investigate. Mulund Police have now registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, for cheating and conspiracy.
Important case-related documents were reportedly misplaced en route to court in December 2024, prompting a separate police complaint.
