CAMIT Backs Karjat Hydropower Project, Seeks Forest Restoration

The Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT) has come out in support of Torrent Power's proposed 3,000 MW Saidongar Pumped Storage Hydropower Project at Karjat in Raigad district. The project, which involves felling of 32,490 trees, has sparked a debate between environmental conservation and industrial progress.
Balancing Development and Environment
CAMIT emphasised that industrial development and environmental conservation must move forward together, not as opposing forces. The chamber has called for robust forest restoration measures alongside the project, ensuring that infrastructure growth does not come at the cost of the region's green cover.
Impact on Property and Infrastructure
For property buyers and investors in Maharashtra, large-scale infrastructure projects like this are significant demand drivers. Improved power infrastructure, better connectivity and employment generation in Raigad can boost residential and commercial real estate activity in the surrounding micro-markets, including Karjat and nearby locations.
However, timely environmental clearances and transparent rehabilitation of affected forest land will be crucial. A balanced approach will help maintain the region's liveability while unlocking long-term economic benefits for local communities and investors alike.
