CID Takes Charge of Pune Hooch Tragedy Investigation

The state Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Pune has officially taken over the investigation into the tragic incident involving poisonous liquor that resulted in the deaths of 15 individuals in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. This decision was announced through a press note issued by the CID on Sunday, highlighting the severity of the case and the need for a thorough and specialized investigation.

According to the press note, the initial cases related to the consumption of spurious liquor were registered at the Dapodi and Hadapsar police stations. The offences in these cases have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, emphasizing the legal framework within which the investigation will proceed.

The Dapodi police station registered cases under sections 105, 110, 123, 125, 275, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections 65(E), 68, 78, 81, and 83 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Similarly, the Hadapsar police station registered a case under the same provisions, ensuring that all legal aspects of the incident are thoroughly addressed.

The transfer of the investigation to the CID is a significant step, as the CID is a specialized unit equipped with the expertise and resources to handle complex and sensitive cases. The CID will now focus on identifying the source of the spurious liquor, tracing the distribution network, and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
