The ED seized multiple property-related documents, Rs 1.33 crore in unaccounted cash, and numerous incriminating documents and devices from 12 premises linked to Anil Pawar.
Anil Pawar is a former civic chief of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC) and an IAS officer, accused of orchestrating an organized cartel of VVCMC officers involved in illegal construction and money laundering.
Pawar created numerous entities in the names of his family members, relatives, and benamidars to launder the bribe money collected, primarily engaged in businesses that absorb large amounts of cash, such as construction and redevelopment of residential towers, and the construction of warehouses.
The builders paid Rs 20-25 per square foot to the commissioner (Pawar) and Rs 10 per square foot to his junior, Y S Reddy (Deputy Director Town Planning), based on the total project area.
The Bombay High Court ordered the demolition of 41 residential and commercial buildings constructed illegally under VVCMC's jurisdiction, resulting in flat buyers losing their money and homes.
