From a small town in Maharashtra with just ₹100 in his pocket, he has built a real estate empire worth ₹11,500 crores. Today, he is one of India's wealthiest real estate developers, according to Forbes.

Born in Dhule, Maharashtra, Runwal came to Bombay in 1964 with a dream to become a chartered accountant. He started living in a single-room house and worked hard to achieve his goal. By 1967, he landed a job at the prestigious American company, Ernst & Young. However, he soon realized that the American style didn't suit him and returned to India.

Runwal worked in a chemical company for a while before venturing into real estate in 1978. His first project was a 10,000-square-foot housing society in Thane, which marked the beginning of his successful journey. Thereafter, he never looked back.

The Runwal Group executed several notable projects, including Runwal Nagar, an estate comprising 16 towers. After his sons joined the business, the group diversified into mall construction, resulting in R-Mall in Mulund and R-City Mall in Ghatkopar, which sprawls over 12 lakh square feet.

Today, Subhash Runwal resides in a luxurious seaside bungalow in Bandra, adjacent to Shah Rukh Khan's home, Mannat. His neighbourhood also includes Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. After achieving success in real estate, Runwal diversified into the steel and pharma businesses. He has also focused on building affordable houses for the middle-class in Mumbai.
