This story resonated deeply with Anand, who said, “I have grown up watching Amitabh Bachchan’s films. His film, Trishul, really inspired me and motivated me to leave Ahmedabad and move to Mumbai. And I also wanted to have my own Shanti Construction Company, and fortunately today I have made Lotus Developers. His character Vijay inspired me to be where I am today. It is all because of Bachchan sahab.”
A year after moving to Mumbai, Anand became successful and even managed to buy a house behind Big B’s iconic bungalow, Jalsa. “I feel so privileged to know him so closely. He treats me like his family. He always stands by me whenever I need him,” Anand shared. He eventually sold the same bungalow to Amitabh for Rs 50 crore in 2013. “I had a bungalow next to him and he wanted to expand his bungalow. He requested me to sell him my property and I did,” he admitted.
Anand also shares a film connection with Amitabh and his son, Abhishek Bachchan. He has bankrolled Amitabh’s 2017 film Sarkar 3, his 2021 release Chehre, and Abhishek’s 2021 film The Big Bull.
Anand’s bond with Shah Rukh Khan is equally deep. During an interaction, SRK referred to Anand as his spiritual guru, highlighting his expertise in Vaastu and how he often guides the superstar to correct energy imbalances. Anand has accepted providing Vaastu tips to SRK before the release of his blockbusters Jawan and Pathaan. SRK termed him his spiritual guru, saying, “When we became close, I started guiding him — there is a special Vaastu Shastra based on energy, which I practise. We adjusted the energy that was required at his place. And it worked for him. He is such a humble man and a great guy that he publicly acknowledged it, and I am grateful for that.”
On Anand’s 60th birthday, Shah Rukh spoke about their bond and how they would go for night drives together. “In the night, at 12-1 am, he comes visits me and we roam around Juhu. He doesn’t tell me, ‘This is my building, that is my building.’ Instead, in the two-kilometre drive, he tells me barring two to three buildings, all buildings are his. Recently, Anand has also focused on regional films, producing the Gujarati drama Fakt Purusho Maate, which also starred Big B, as well as the Marathi drama Jilabi.
