Ganesh Bidkar Appointed as BJP Group Leader in Pune Municipal Corporation
Pune, 30th January 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed senior corporator Ganesh Madhukar Bidkar as its new group leader in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), strengthening its leadership structure following a sweeping victory in the recent civic elections.
The appointment was conveyed through an official letter issued by BJP State President Ravindra Chavan to Pune City President Dheeraj Ghate. The decision comes after the BJP secured a dominant 119 seats in the PMC, firmly establishing its majority in the civic body.
Bidkar played a central role in the party’s municipal election campaign, serving as the BJP’s chief election in-charge for the polls. Party leaders have credited him with being a key strategist behind the BJP’s strong performance. In recognition of his experience and organizational capabilities, the leadership has now entrusted him with heading the party’s municipal legislative wing.
A multiple-term corporator since 2002, Bidkar is regarded as one of the BJP’s most experienced leaders in Pune. He gained prominence in earlier elections after defeating senior Congress figures, including a sitting mayor, in constituencies once considered difficult for the BJP. His work has been seen as instrumental in expanding the party’s base in parts of East Pune.
With nearly three decades of involvement in party organization, Bidkar has handled responsibilities from the grassroots ward level to key city leadership roles. He previously served as BJP City General Secretary and also played an important part in coordinating Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ “Janadesh Yatra” outreach initiative.
Public service is a legacy in his family. His late father, Madhukarrao Bidkar, was also a PMC corporator and served as Chairman of the Standing Committee.
Major Positions Held
Over the years, Bidkar has held several important posts within the PMC:
- Chairman, Kasba Peth Ward Committee (2009–2010) - Chairman, City Improvement Committee (2010–2011) - Chairman, Standing Committee (2011–2012) - BJP Group Leader, PMC (2014–2017) - Leader of the House, PMC (2020–2022)
With his administrative experience and deep organizational roots, Bidkar’s return as BJP group leader is seen as a move aimed at ensuring strong coordination between the party organization and its elected representatives in the PMC.
