Real Estate Mumbai:Mumbai, September 22, 2025: The Confederation of Indian Industry’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) hosted the second edition of the Green Mumbai Summit 2025 at Taj the Trees, Vikhroli, under the theme “Advancing Climate Resilience: Decarbonizing the Built Environment.” The summit brought together policymakers, urban planners, architects, industry leaders, and sustainability experts to deliberate on strategies for building a low-carbon, climate-resilient Mumbai aligned with India’s Net Zero 2070 mission.

The event saw strong participation from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), who pledged coordinated action on green infrastructure, renewable energy integration, sustainable waste management, and nature-positive urban planning.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Shri Avinash Kate, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, BMC, said, “At BMC, our vision for Greening Mumbai is rooted in making sustainable urban planning a reality. We recognize that buildings and real estate contribute significantly to emissions, and transforming new buildings while retrofitting existing ones is key to achieving our net zero goals. With the support of IGBC, we are committed to driving low-carbon design, innovative materials, and future-ready development practices, ensuring that Mumbai grows as a greener, healthier, and more livable city for generations to come.”

Dr. Mala Singh, Chairperson, IGBC Mumbai Chapter, emphasized, “India is witnessing a transformative shift towards sustainable urbanization, and green buildings are at the heart of this journey. Through the Green Mumbai Summit 2025, we are reinforcing our commitment to accelerate the adoption of green building practices, integrate renewable energy solutions, and enable cities like Mumbai to lead the way in achieving India’s Net Zero goals. Together, we can build urban environments that are not only resilient and resource-efficient but also enhance the quality of life for generations to come.”

A highlight of the summit was the conferring of IGBC Gold Certification to BMC’s G/South Ward Office for sustainable measures including water savings, rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment, and solar power usage. Twelve projects were awarded IGBC Platinum Certification, and 70 founding members from Mumbai were recognized for advancing green building adoption.

Panel discussions spotlighted green redevelopment and net zero communities, featuring case studies on eco-friendly housing, smart technologies, and resilient urban design.

Concluding the event, Mr. Chitranjan Kaushik, Co-Chair, IGBC Mumbai Chapter, noted that the summit marked an important milestone in fostering partnerships and innovation to accelerate Mumbai’s transition toward a sustainable, climate-resilient metropolis.
