HYDRAA Takes Strong Stance Against Illegal Construction Waste Dumping in Water Bodies
The Hyderabad Urban Development and Regulatory Authority (HYDRAA) has taken a strong stance against the illegal dumping of construction debris in water bodies. In a recent statement, the agency warned that strict action will be taken against individuals and entities found violating these regulations. There will be constant surveillance on the lakes, and violators will face legal consequences, including arrests and criminal cases, according to a HYDRAA release.
On Saturday, HYDRAA organized a meeting with real estate firms, builders, transporters, and representatives from various associations. The primary focus of the meeting was to highlight the importance of protecting water bodies for environmental sustainability. Commissioner AV Ranganath emphasized the critical role that builders and construction and demolition (C&D) waste transporting contractors play in this effort.
Ranganath stated that builders and C&D waste transporting contractors have been advised to come to a mutual understanding regarding the designated areas for waste disposal. “Contractors cannot dump waste at their convenience. If they continue to dump waste on the shores of lakes to save on transport costs, the agency will take strict action against them,” he explained. He further added that legal action will also be taken against drivers, vehicle owners, and construction company owners who violate these rules.
To support this initiative, HYDRAA has requested citizens to provide information about any violators by calling the helpline number 9000113667. This move is aimed at fostering community participation in the protection of water bodies and ensuring that the environment is safeguarded for future generations.
The agency’s efforts are part of a broader initiative to protect and preserve the natural resources of Hyderabad. By collaborating with various stakeholders and engaging the public, HYDRAA aims to create a sustainable and environmentally conscious city.
