The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is a high-speed rail line connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad, covering a distance of approximately 508 kilometers with a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour. It is being developed by the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The first phase of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is expected to be operational by 2028.
Key features include the adoption of advanced Japanese Shinkansen technology, training of Indian engineers and technicians, and a focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The project will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from 8 hours to just 2 hours and 10 minutes, boost economic activities, tourism, and urban development along the route, and enhance overall connectivity in the region.
The Japanese government has provided a soft loan of around $15 billion for the project through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This is one of the largest foreign loans extended by Japan for an infrastructure project outside its borders.
