Indian Realty Sector Sees Surge in Domestic Investments, Up 5 Times Annually

Indian Realty Sector Sees Surge in Domestic Investments, Up 5 Times Annually
Real Estate Mumbai:The Indian real estate sector witnessed a significant influx of domestic investments, with a whopping $637.9 million pumped in during the second quarter of 2024. This marks a fivefold increase compared to the same period last year, according to a report by Vestian, a leading real estate consultant.

The data revealed that institutional investments in the Indian real estate sector rose by 96% in April-June to $3.1 billion, up from $1.6 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. Domestic investors played a crucial role in this growth, actively participating to capitalize on the robust economic growth.

Foreign investors, however, accounted for the highest share of 71% of the total investments received during the second quarter of 2024, with $2,218.1 million infused into the sector.Domestic investors, on the other hand, contributed around 20% of the total investments, with $637.9 million invested.

The industrial and warehousing sector saw a single large deal worth $1.5 billion, accounting for 48% of the total investments received in Q2 2024. Residential and commercial assets followed, with 24% and 20% share, respectively.

Institutional investments in commercial assets declined to $622.3 million from $1,400 million, largely due to a higher base effect. On the other hand, investments in residential assets rose to $732.8 million from $57.8 million. Industrial and warehousing assets received $1,500 million in April-June 2024, up from $133.9 million in the year-ago period.

According to Shrinivas Rao, CEO of Vestian, the Indian real estate sector is expected to continue attracting investments in the upcoming quarters, driven by robust economic growth and infrastructure development.
