Maharashtra Government Faces Flak for Allotting Prime Plot to Educational Institute in South Mumbai
Real Estate Mumbai:The Maharashtra government's decision to allot a prime plot in South Mumbai to an educational institute has sparked controversy. Nana Patole, president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), has strongly objected to the move, alleging that it violates rules and favors those with political connections.

According to Patole, the institute in question is associated with certain cabinet members and leading politicians. He claimed that the Mahayuti government has a history of allotting plots to private industrial houses, including the Adani group, and that this latest decision is another example of blatant favoritism.

The plot in question is located in a prime area of South Mumbai, and its allotment to the educational institute has raised eyebrows. Patole questioned the criteria used to select the institute and the process followed for the allotment. He also demanded to know why the plot was allotted at a nominal price.

The Wakf Board, a statutory body that oversees Muslim charitable trusts, has also been involved in a dispute related to a plot in Mumbai's Bhendi Bazaar area. The board held hearings to resolve the dispute, which centers on the sale of a plot that includes a mosque. Opposition parties have claimed that the sale violated Wakf laws.

In a separate development, the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for four prime plots on the west and east banks of the Sabarmati River. The plots are earmarked for retail, office, and hospitality projects, marking the first move to realize the area's real estate potential.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh's higher education institutions have struggled to secure substantial alumni funding, despite efforts to boost contributions. Significant donations, such as the Rs 228 crore gift to IIT Madras, have highlighted the contrast.

In a bid to promote transparency and accountability, the Maharashtra government has been urged to make public the details of plot allotments and the criteria used to select beneficiaries.
