Maharashtra Poll Panel Clarifies: No Party Can Alter Electoral Rolls
Real Estate Mumbai:The Maharashtra State Election Commission (MSEC) has issued a strong statement on Saturday, emphasizing that no political party can tamper with the electoral rolls. This clarification comes in the wake of allegations by opposition parties, including the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, NCP (SP), and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), that there are duplicate names in the electoral rolls across different addresses and assembly segments.

The opposition has called for rectification in the electoral rolls and the removal of anomalies ahead of the rural and urban body elections, which are scheduled to be completed by January 31, 2026. The MSEC has assured that corrections and updates on the voter lists are being managed securely and transparently.

In a separate development, NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil extended his support to members of the Jain community protesting against an alleged land grab in Pune's Model Colony. Patil stated that he is with the protesters and asserted that the practice of creating discord in the name of religion while seizing religious lands will not be tolerated in Maharashtra. He accused ruling party MLAs of repeatedly encroaching upon lands of Hindu temples and religious trusts across the state. A piece of land belonging to the Jain community, housing a hostel for students and an old temple, has also been illegally acquired through a Rs 230-crore transaction, he said on X.

Meanwhile, two teenagers were killed in separate road accidents in Beed district on Saturday. In the first incident, 15-year-old Ganesh Ashok Vaibase and his uncle Vitthal Andhale sustained grievous injuries after a tractor, driven by farmer Sachin Vaibase allegedly in a drunken condition, rammed into their motorcycle at Namewadi around 3:30 pm. The second incident involved another teenager who was also killed in a road accident in the same tehsil.

The Maharashtra State Election Commission's statement and the ongoing protests highlight the importance of transparency and accountability in electoral processes and the protection of religious properties. The commission's assurance is expected to instill confidence in the electorate and ensure a fair and democratic process in the upcoming rural and urban body elections.

The MSEC has also urged all political parties and citizens to report any irregularities or concerns regarding the electoral rolls. The commission is committed to addressing these issues promptly and ensuring that the electoral process remains free and fair.

As the rural and urban body elections approach, the MSEC's statement and the ongoing developments in Pune and Beed underscore the need for vigilance and cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
