MahaRERA Cracks Down on Housing Projects in Maharashtra for Advertisement Violations
Real Estate Pune:Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has taken a firm stance against housing projects that violate advertising guidelines. In a recent crackdown, MahaRERA has initiated suo motu action against 628 housing projects across the state for failing to mention registration numbers and QR codes in their advertisements. This move has resulted in fines of Rs 88.90 lakh, with Rs 72.35 lakh already recovered.

The projects that have been fined are spread across the state, with 312 in Mumbai, 250 in Pune, and 66 in Nagpur. MahaRERA officials have stated that despite making it mandatory for developers to include registration numbers and QR codes in all publicity materials, some have continued to disregard the guidelines. As a result, the authority had to initiate suo motu action against the violators, serve show cause notices, and impose penalties.

The crackdown has been particularly effective in the Mumbai region, including Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Nashik, and Konkan, where Rs 41.50 lakh out of Rs 54.25 lakh in fines has been collected. In the Pune region, covering the city and parts of western Maharashtra, Rs 24.75 lakh out of Rs 28.30 lakh in fines has been recovered.

MahaRERA Chairman Ajoy Mehta has reiterated that developers are not permitted to advertise their projects without MahaRERA registration numbers. He also noted that other states have followed Maharashtra's lead in mandating QR codes. The importance of verifying RERA registration before investing in a housing project cannot be overstated. With the real estate sector being prone to fraudulent activities, MahaRERA's efforts to ensure transparency and accountability are crucial.
