Man Vandalizes Mumbai Railway Office After Ticketless Travel
Real Estate Mumbai:A violent incident occurred at Borivali Station in Mumbai when a man, caught travelling without a valid ticket, attacked railway staff and damaged property inside a government office. The altercation was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention to the issue of ticketless travel and the need for stricter enforcement of railway rules.

The incident took place around 3 p.m. on August 2. The accused and his friends were travelling in a first-class coach on second-class tickets on a Virar fast local train. One of the group members did not have a ticket for the journey between Andheri and Borivali, as reported by India Today.

Following standard procedure, railway officials escorted the three passengers to the Ticket Collector’s (TC) office at Borivali for formalities. However, the situation quickly escalated when the accused allegedly grew aggressive and began assaulting staff members. In the chaos, office equipment such as computer CPUs, monitors, and keyboards were damaged.

The viral video shows a man wearing a yellow kurta shouting at officials and throwing objects at them. A woman with him appeared to suffer a panic attack during the incident. The accused also issued threats to the staff, saying, “Just take my name in Dharavi, everyone knows me.” He reportedly asked one of his friends to record the confrontation and claimed he would file a formal complaint.

Deputy Chief Ticket Inspector Shamsher Ibrahim and other staff members sustained serious injuries in the assault. The video also shows the accused bleeding during the scuffle. Both the staff and the accused were later taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) intervened and managed to restrain the man, who was then handed over to the authorities. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of ticketless travel and the potential for violent confrontations when passengers are caught violating railway rules.

Railway officials have expressed concern over the incident and have called for stricter measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. The viral video has sparked a broader discussion about the importance of adhering to railway regulations and the consequences of non-compliance.

In a statement, the Western Railway Zone spokesperson said, 'We take such incidents very seriously and will take appropriate legal action against the accused. We urge all passengers to travel with valid tickets to avoid such confrontations and ensure a safe and smooth journey for everyone.'

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following railway rules and the potential consequences of violating them. Railway authorities are working to enhance security and improve the ticketing system to minimize such incidents in the future.
