MHADA Relaxes Rules for Cess Building Tenants: No NOC Fees for Eligible Applicants
Real Estate Mumbai:In a move to promote affordable housing, MHADA's Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board has granted offer letters to 158 eligible applicants from the master list of old cess buildings through a computerized lottery. The letters were distributed by Maharashtra's Housing and Other Backward Classes Welfare Minister Atul Save.

During the event held at MHADA headquarters in Bandra (East), Save announced the waiver of the Rs 70,500 NOC fee for these eligible winners. This historic reform has made the tenement allocation process more transparent and efficient, reducing complaints from tenants/residents.

Save stated, 'To ensure the allocation of flats to the 265 eligible tenants/residents from the Master List of old cess buildings, the Board conducted its first computerized lottery on December 28, 2023. There were 444 flats available for this lottery.' He further added, 'Following requests for re-verification of the documents of the lottery winners, MHADA re-verified and found 212 out of the 265 applicants eligible. Allotment letters were issued to 158 of these verified applicants, who have submitted the acceptance letters.'

MHADA vice president and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal said, 'Under the guidance of housing minister Save, the rules for allocating flats to eligible tenants/residents from the old cess buildings on the master list were established. Previous resolutions, circulars, and orders were revised to form a part of this new policy for the allocation of flats from the master list.'

Applicants receiving the allotment letters must fulfill the conditions mentioned in the offer letter and take possession. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the allocation without prior notice, and the rights on the master list will be terminated.

MHADA has successfully allocated around 20,000 flats through computerized lotteries in Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Konkan divisions. Soon, MHADA's Mumbai Board will conduct a computerized lottery for the sale of 2,000 flats on prime locations in the city. The government aims to provide housing for all, and under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and Dhangar Housing Scheme, the government is providing homes.
