Mumbai BMC to Spend ₹300 Crore on Diwali Bonus for Employees
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a Diwali bonus of ₹31,000 for its permanent employees this year. The civic administration made the announcement on Thursday, stating that the total amount the corporation will spend on Diwali bonuses is around ₹300 crore. This includes officers, staff, and teachers from municipal and aided schools. The Municipal Mazdoor Union confirmed the details.
The BMC has a total of 85,000 permanent employees who will receive the Diwali bonus of ₹31,000. Additionally, around 25,000 contractual workers will receive bonuses ranging from ₹11,000 to ₹15,000, depending on their posts and departments.
The union had initially demanded a Diwali bonus of ₹50,000. Following negotiation meetings with the BMC commissioner, the amount was finalized at ₹31,000. Last Diwali, BMC employees received a bonus of ₹29,000, indicating a slight increase this year.
This announcement comes as a welcome relief for BMC employees, who have been working diligently to manage the city's infrastructure and services. The bonus is expected to boost morale and provide financial support during the festive season. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, one of the largest municipal corporations in India, plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of Mumbai, the financial capital of the country.
The BMC's decision to allocate such a significant sum for Diwali bonuses reflects its commitment to recognizing the hard work and dedication of its employees. The bonus is not only a token of appreciation but also a practical measure to help employees celebrate the festival with their families. The corporation's efforts to ensure the well-being and satisfaction of its workforce are commendable and are likely to have a positive impact on the overall efficiency of its operations.
