Mumbai BMW Crash: Shiv Sena Leader's Son Mihir Shah Admits to Driving, Sent to Custody
Real Estate Mumbai:In a recent development, a Mumbai court has sent Mihir R. Shah, the 24-year-old son of a senior Shiv Sena leader, to police custody till July 16 for his involvement in a fatal BMW crash that occurred on July 7. The accident resulted in the death of a fisherwoman, Kaveri P. Nakhwa, after Shah's speeding BMW car rammed into her two-wheeler. Shah, who was driving the vehicle, had been absconding for nearly 60 hours after the accident before he was finally apprehended on Tuesday afternoon from Virar in Palghar.

During the court hearing, the public prosecutor requested that Shah be sent to maximum custody to enable a thorough investigation into the 'cruel and heartless crime.' The prosecutor also raised questions about how Shah escaped and who aided him, as well as the recovery of other evidence, including the car's missing registration number plate.

The police are also investigating who owns the BMW car involved in the crash and how the deceased was dragged for almost 1.5 km on the bonnet of the speeding vehicle before Shah stopped it. Shah then jumped out of the car and fled in another vehicle, the details of which are still unknown.

Shah's father, Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena Deputy Leader, was arrested and sent to 15 days' judicial custody before being granted bail on Monday. The driver of the BMW, Rajrishi Bidawat, has been sent to police custody till July 11.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has slammed the MahaYuti government, accusing it of 'complicity' in the case. Several top functionaries, including Varsha Gaikwad, Sachin Sawant, Aaditya Thackeray, Kishori Pednekar, and Sachin Ahir, visited the Nakhwa family and assured them of full support in their quest for justice.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar of the Congress charged the government with trying to cover up the whole issue and demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the case. Aaditya Thackeray, meanwhile, demanded that the accused be charged with murder and questioned whether the government would take similar action against Mihir Shah as it did against other accused individuals.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs for the victim's family and removed Rajesh Shah from the post of Shiv Sena Deputy Leader of Palghar.
