Mumbai Crime: Two Thane Men Booked for Cheating Four Individuals of ₹15.25 Lakh in Fake Government Job Scam
Real Estate Mumbai:The Dadar Police have taken action against two men, Sharad Kasbe and Yogesh Patankar, for allegedly defrauding four individuals — two women and two men — of ₹15.25 lakh. The accused falsely promised the victims government jobs in the Public Works Department (PWD) in Mumbai. Both men are residents of Thane and are currently on the run, according to police.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), between June 1, 2019, and June 1, 2021, the accused took a total of ₹31.75 lakh from the complainant, Pranali Chintaman Wadekar, aged 32, and three others — Sumit, Umesh, and Rasika. They lured these individuals with the assurance of government employment in the PWD. When the promised jobs did not materialize, the victims demanded their money back. The accused returned ₹16.5 lakh but failed to repay the remaining ₹15.25 lakh.

Following this, the victims approached Dadar Police Station and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are now conducting an investigation to locate and apprehend the accused.

This scam highlights the growing issue of fraudulent activities in the job market, particularly those targeting individuals seeking government jobs. The promise of secure and well-paying positions often lures unsuspecting victims into handing over large sums of money. It is crucial for job seekers to verify the credentials of any individual or organization offering such opportunities and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The Public Works Department (PWD) is a government department responsible for the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure, including roads, buildings, and other facilities. The department plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of public infrastructure, making it a desirable sector for employment. However, the demand for such jobs has also made it a target for fraudulent schemes.

The Dadar Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any similar incidents to the nearest police station. They have also requested anyone with information about the whereabouts of the accused to come forward and assist in the investigation. The police are committed to bringing the culprits to justice and ensuring that such fraudulent activities are curtailed.
