Mumbai Metro-3, the Aqua Line, Now Open for Public Service: What You Need to Know
Real Estate Mumbai:The Mumbai Metro-3, also known as the Aqua Line, opened to the public on Monday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the service. This marks the city's first underground Metro service, connecting Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey Colony JVLR.

The Aqua Line spans 33.5 kilometers, but only a 12.44-km stretch has been made available to the public so far. The project cost over Rs 32,000 crore and includes 10 stations Aarey, Marol Naka, CSMIA T1 (Terminal 1), MIDC, SEEPZ, Sahar Road, CSMIA T2 (Terminal 2), Vidyanagari, Dharavi, and BKC. Nine of these stations are underground, while Aarey is the only ground-level station.

According to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the line will conduct 96 trips a day, with each train capable of accommodating over 2,000 passengers. The maximum speed of the trains will be 85 km per hour, with an average running speed of 35 km per hour.

The Aqua Line will operate from 6 30 am to 10 30 pm on weekdays and from 8 30 am to 10 30 pm on weekends. Fares range from Rs 10 to Rs 50. Commuters can purchase tickets through a dedicated app or at physical counters. By next month, the National Common Mobility Card will be valid across all metro lines, making travel more convenient for passengers.

The Metro line is expected to be fully operational by June 2025, significantly reducing vehicular traffic by approximately 650,000 trips. This initiative aims to ease the city's traffic congestion and provide a more reliable and efficient mode of public transport.

The MMRC, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra, is responsible for the development and operation of the Mumbai Metro. The corporation has been working tirelessly to ensure the timely completion and smooth operation of the Aqua Line, contributing to the overall improvement of Mumbai's transportation infrastructure.
