A senior police officer stated that they received a tip-off about four Afghan nationals living in Dharavi, while two were found in South Mumbai. Crime branch units I and V were promptly deployed to track them down. Upon checking their biometrics, it was confirmed that they were indeed Afghan nationals, as their original passport details were verified.
Further investigation revealed that the six individuals had obtained fake documents under various Indian identities. They had been working in the city as money lenders, real estate agents, and cloth merchants. They had left their families in Afghanistan and came to India in search of better economic opportunities. Political instability and a lack of job prospects in Afghanistan drove them to seek a better life in India, where they could send money back home to support their families.
According to the police, the Afghan nationals were cautious to avoid any legal trouble that might expose their true nationality. They maintained a low profile, refrained from getting married in India, and kept their Afghani identity a secret. The official added that the six have already been sent to Delhi and will be flown back to Kabul on Tuesday.
