The purpose of the BMC's slum redevelopment projects is to create public awareness, attract capable developers, and further an inclusive redevelopment agenda for the city, improving living conditions for slum residents.
The BMC invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from developers on May 10 for redeveloping 64 slum rehabilitation projects on municipal land.
Developers raised concerns about the need for accurate slum household surveys to determine eligibility and greater flexibility in land reservations, which currently restrict the buildable area for redevelopment.
Developers are responsible for the entire process, including conducting slum surveys, preparing redevelopment plans, securing permissions, constructing both rehabilitation and sale units, and managing post-occupancy maintenance.
Developers with prior experience in slum or housing rehabilitation and who meet the necessary technical and financial criteria will be considered for these projects.
