The completion of 300 km of viaduct work is a major milestone in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, marking significant progress towards the completion of the bullet train corridor and ensuring the project stays on track.
Viaducts are crucial for the bullet train project as they help avoid level crossings, ensure higher speeds, and minimize land acquisition issues, keeping the train line above ground and ensuring smooth operations.
In Surat, the project is using Japan’s Shinkansen-inspired ‘J-slab ballastless’ system for the reinforced concrete track bed, which is a first in India and ensures high-speed and smooth travel.
The foundation stone for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project was laid on September 14, 2017, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The bullet train is expected to revolutionize travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by drastically cutting travel time, improving connectivity, and introducing advanced Shinkansen technology to India.
