The BMC had marked a portion of the Mehboob-E-Subhani Masjid as an encroachment and issued an eviction notice for its removal.
Approximately five thousand people gathered near the mosque in response to the circulated letter.
The BMC accepted the trustees' proposal to voluntarily dismantle the encroached portion of the mosque, providing them with a four to five-day extension to complete the task.
Residents argue that the mosque is a key religious and community landmark in the area, and any action taken against it could disrupt the delicate social fabric of the slum.
The BMC will take further action to demolish the structure as per the original notice.
