By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-27

Cyber Fraud Warning for Property Buyers

Nagpur Cyber Police have arrested 12 individuals for allegedly cheating an accountant of ₹4.45 crore through a WhatsApp impersonation scam. The accused posed as the company owner and tricked the accountant into transferring funds. Police have recovered ₹80 lakh so far.

Rising Digital Frauds in Real Estate

With property transactions increasingly moving online, such impersonation scams pose a serious risk to homebuyers and investors. Fraudsters often use fake numbers and emails to intercept payments. In this case, the victim was an accountant at Kesar India Limited in Sadar, Nagpur.

Safety Tips for Investors

Property buyers should always verify bank account details directly with the developer or seller via a known phone number or in-person meeting. Never rely on WhatsApp messages or emails alone for payment instructions. If a request seems urgent or unusual, confirm before transferring money.

Authorities advise registering complaints with the cyber cell immediately if any suspicious communication is received. Awareness and verification are key to protecting hard-earned money in real estate deals.
