Nagpur and its surrounding cities are set to receive a long-term solution to their growing water shortage through two proposed projects worth a combined ₹1,300 crore. Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Nagpur District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) and the Water Resources Department to prepare and execute the plan.
This infrastructure push comes at a critical time when water availability is a major deciding factor for homebuyers and investors. The proposed projects are expected to cover the entire metropolitan region, including emerging residential and commercial corridors under NMRDA's jurisdiction.
How Water Supply Impacts Real Estate
Water scarcity has long been a deterrent for property buyers in many parts of India. A reliable water supply not only improves liveability but also enhances the long-term value of residential and commercial assets. With this ₹1,300 crore investment, Nagpur's real estate market is likely to see increased interest from end-users and investors who prioritise infrastructure-backed locations.
Areas that previously faced water stress may witness a gradual appreciation in property prices as the plan moves from approval to implementation. The development is also expected to support upcoming township projects and plotted developments in the NMRDA region, making them more viable for families and businesses.
While the exact timelines and project details are yet to be finalised, the direction given by the guardian minister signals a strong political will to address the region's water needs. For property stakeholders, this is a positive indicator of sustainable urban growth in Nagpur and its periphery.
