Nagpur Cyber Fraud: Rs 103 Cr Mule Network, Property Buyers at Risk
By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-27
Nagpur cyber police have uncovered a massive network of mule bank accounts through which over Rs 103 crore was routed, leading to 11 arrests in connection with 388 cases. The investigation reveals that unsuspecting citizens, including property buyers and investors, are increasingly being dragged into cybercrime investigations after their identity documents are misused to open bank accounts that criminals exploit.
How property buyers are targeted
Fraudsters often use stolen Aadhaar and PAN details to open bank accounts in the names of innocent individuals. These accounts are then used to channel money stolen from victims of online fraud, including advance payments made for property purchases, booking amounts, and stamp duty payments. In many cases, the account holder is unaware until a police notice arrives.
Safety measures for real estate transactions
Property buyers and investors in Nagpur should verify all bank account details before transferring funds. Always cross-check the beneficiary name with the developer or broker's registered details. Use official payment channels, demand a proper receipt, and never share identity documents with unauthorised agents. For high-value transactions, consider using escrow services or legal assistance to ensure the funds reach the correct entity.
The police have urged citizens to immediately report any misuse of their identity documents. With 11 arrests and a trail of Rs 103 crore, the case highlights the growing need for digital vigilance in Maharashtra's real estate sector.
