Real Estate Mumbai:Navi Mumbai: Two unidentified bike-borne assailants snatched a gold mangalsutra worth nearly Rs 1.9 lakh from a woman who was out on an evening walk with her husband in Kharghar on Thursday night. The mangalsutra, weighing approximately 3 tolas and 5 grams, was a valuable piece of jewelry that the victim, Surekha Salunkhe (44), was wearing.

The incident took place around 10.30 pm near Bal Bharati School in Sector 4, Kharghar. Salunkhe, a resident of Mahadev Morya Society, was walking with her husband after dinner when the robbers struck. As the couple strolled along the road, two men approached from behind on a motorcycle. The pillion rider swiftly snatched the mangalsutra from her neck and both sped off in the direction of Utsav Chowk.

Although the couple raised an alarm and shouted for help, the culprits managed to escape before anyone could intervene. The couple later approached the Kharghar Police Station and filed a formal complaint.

Kharghar police have registered a case of robbery against the unknown assailants and have begun a search operation. ‘CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to help identify and track down the suspects,’ a police officer said.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of residents in the area, especially during evening hours. Local authorities are urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. The police have also increased patrols in the area to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
