Despite being aware that the foreign tenant did not have a valid passport and visa, Shroff did not submit the mandatory rental agreement at the police station. Ugochukwo, the accused African national, has been lodged at Taloja jail for the offence under the provision of the Foreigners Act, 1946.

In a separate incident, API Arun Chavan stated that another FIR was registered against landlord Jawed Ali Sayyed. Sayyed rented out two apartments to seven African nationals in the Faujia Mansion building at Farshipada in Sector 34, Kharghar. Unlike the first case, the seven African nationals have not been named as accused. They have been given the opportunity to submit their passports and visas to rectify the situation.
