Navi Mumbai's Property Tax Collection Surges to ₹500 Crore in Seven Months
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has reported an impressive collection of over ₹500 crore in property taxes in the first seven months of the current financial year, from April to October. This achievement is a testament to the corporation's strategic efforts and the active participation of property owners.
This tax was collected from 1.63 lakh property owners across the eight NMMC divisions. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailash Shinde attributed the success to a combination of people-oriented initiatives and the integration of technology.
"The property tax department of the NMMC has achieved a remarkable feat by collecting over ₹500 crore in taxes in the first seven months of the financial year 2025-26 from April to October. This leap in tax collection has been possible due to people-oriented initiatives, promotion of digital payments, various awareness campaigns implemented to create awareness among taxpayers, and the cooperation of citizens," Dr. Shinde said.
The NMMC has set an ambitious target of collecting ₹1,000 crore in property tax this year. According to the public relations officer, Mahendra Konde, the corporation is on track to meet this goal.
Out of the total tax collection of ₹500.11 crore, payments made through digital platforms accounted for ₹313.70 crore, while the offline collection was ₹186.41 crore. This significant shift towards digital payments underscores the NMMC's commitment to modernizing its tax collection processes and making it easier for citizens to pay their taxes.
The NMMC's success in property tax collection not only boosts the municipal budget but also enhances the quality of services and infrastructure in Navi Mumbai. The funds collected will be used for various development projects, including road maintenance, public health initiatives, and the expansion of public amenities.
The NMMC's initiatives to promote digital payments and awareness campaigns have played a crucial role in this achievement. These efforts have not only increased transparency and efficiency but have also fostered a sense of civic responsibility among property owners. As the NMMC continues to innovate and engage with the community, the future looks promising for the city's development and growth.
In conclusion, the NMMC's remarkable success in property tax collection is a clear indication of the effectiveness of their strategies and the active participation of the community. With a target of ₹1,000 crore for the year, the NMMC is well on its way to achieving its financial goals and continuing to provide high-quality services to the residents of Navi Mumbai.
