The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has floated a tender worth Rs 2,553.84 crore to widen a 42 km stretch of National Highway 53 (NH-53) connecting Nagpur and Bhandara in Maharashtra. The project aims to expand the existing four-lane road to a six-lane highway, significantly enhancing traffic capacity on this key corridor.
Project Scope
The proposed widening will cover the entire Nagpur–Bhandara section, which currently handles a heavy mix of passenger vehicles and freight traffic. By adding two more lanes, the highway is expected to reduce travel time, ease congestion, and improve road safety. The tender process marks a crucial step towards the project's execution, with construction likely to begin after the bidding and approval stages.
Connectivity Boost
NH-53 (old NH-6) is a vital artery linking Nagpur to eastern Maharashtra and further to Chhattisgarh. Widening this stretch will strengthen regional connectivity, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people. For Nagpur, which is emerging as a logistics hub, this upgrade is expected to attract more industrial and commercial activity along the corridor.
Real Estate Impact
For property buyers and investors, infrastructure improvements of this scale often act as a catalyst for real estate appreciation. Areas near the highway, especially on the outskirts of Nagpur and along the Bhandara route, are likely to see increased demand for residential and commercial plots. Enhanced connectivity makes these locations more viable for daily commuting, potentially driving up land values and new project launches in the coming years.
As NHAI moves forward with this ambitious widening project, stakeholders in the Maharashtra property market should keep a close watch on the corridor's development. Improved infrastructure not only boosts livability but also opens up new investment opportunities in emerging micro-markets.
