NMC Cleans Ambazari Lake: Impact on Nagpur Property Market
By GeoSquare News Desk · Published 2026-10-31

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has adopted a dual strategy to prevent the return of invasive water hyacinth in Ambazari Lake. After months of work, the lake's central stretch has been cleared, but fresh growth has emerged along the banks. To tackle this, NMC has deployed harvesters, JCBs and poclains, alongside manual efforts.
Infrastructure Push
NMC is also planning to purchase a specialised sludge-removal machine worth Rs 5 crore to address the lake's sediment buildup. Additionally, the upcoming Wadi sewage treatment plant (STP) is expected to curb the inflow of untreated sewage, which has been a major cause of nutrient overload and weed growth. These measures are part of a broader infrastructure upgrade aimed at restoring the lake's ecological health.
Impact on Property Market
For property buyers and investors, a cleaner Ambazari Lake is a significant positive. The lake is a key recreational landmark in Nagpur, and its improvement enhances the livability of nearby residential areas. Localities such as Ambazari, Dharampeth, and surrounding zones are likely to see sustained demand for housing, as green spaces and water bodies are major value drivers in real estate.
Infrastructure projects like the STP and lake desilting also signal the civic body's commitment to sustainable urban development. This can boost investor confidence in the region, especially for projects that highlight proximity to the lake and its restored environment. While property rates are not directly tied to lake cleanliness, the overall aesthetic and environmental quality of the neighbourhood play a crucial role in long-term appreciation.
As NMC continues its efforts, the real estate market around Ambazari Lake is expected to remain resilient, with improved infrastructure acting as a catalyst for both residential and commercial interest.
