Panvel Extends Property Tax Fine Exemption Under 90% and 75% Bracket
Real Estate Mumbai:Navi Mumbai: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced an extension of the deadline for property tax fine exemption under the 90% and 75% brackets of the amnesty scheme. The 90% rebate, which was initially effective from July 18 and set to expire on August 15, has been extended by a month until September 15. The 75% rebate period, originally scheduled from September 16 to September 30, remains unchanged.

The property tax outstanding amount currently stands at over 47% of the 2025-26 budget figures. To encourage timely payments, the civic body is offering a basic tax discount of 5% to those who pay the 2025-26 tax by August 31. Additionally, a 2% discount is available for digital payments through e-bills, and another 2% discount is offered for property holders who participate in energy-saving, water recharge, solid waste management, and environment-friendly activities.

Four-tier (90%, 75%, 50%, and 25% rebate on penalty amount) amnesty scheme was earlier scheduled to expire on September 20. However, Civic Chief Mangesh Chitale has extended the scheme to September 30. The four slabs have been reduced to two slabs: a 90% rebate from August 15 to September 15 and a 75% rebate from September 16 to September 30, doing away with the earlier announced 50% and 25% slabs.

A media release by the civic body reveals that so far, Rs 213 crores has been collected from July 18. PCMC had presented a budget of Rs 3,874 crores, and the property tax outstanding amount stands at Rs 1,842 crores (as of Thursday, August 13). Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Property Tax), Swarup Kharage, has appealed to taxpayers to clear their tax dues by taking advantage of the scheme.

Recent protest rallies by opposition parties have led to a reevaluation of tax reliefs. The Kharghar Colony Forum has appealed to property holders to withhold payments, aiming for a reduction in the base rate. Despite this, the PCMC remains committed to ensuring that the amnesty scheme reaches as many taxpayers as possible, helping to alleviate financial burdens and support the city's budget.

The extension of the property tax fine exemption is a significant step towards ensuring that property owners in Panvel can benefit from the amnesty scheme, while also contributing to the city's financial health. The PCMC is urging all property holders to take advantage of this opportunity and clear their outstanding tax dues.
