Pune Incident: AI-Generated Nude Images of Woman Shared Online After BGMI Chat
Real Estate Mumbai:Bavdhan, 11th October 2025: In a disturbing case highlighting the dark side of artificial intelligence misuse, a 21-year-old MBA student from Pune’s Bavdhan area was targeted with morphed obscene images created using AI and circulated on social media. The accused, who allegedly befriended her through the popular mobile game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), has been arrested by Bavdhan Police from Mumbai.

The arrested person has been identified as Chirag Rajendra Thapa (21), a resident of Virar East, Mumbai. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

According to Bavdhan Police, the victim and the accused met online around two weeks ago while playing BGMI. Like many multiplayer online games, BGMI allows random players to interact through matchmaking and voice chat, which is how the accused and the victim got acquainted. After their initial interaction during gaming sessions, the accused reportedly contacted the woman on Snapchat and Instagram. Police said that the two exchanged messages for a few days, but when Thapa proposed to meet her in person and asked her to be his girlfriend, she refused.

A police officer involved in the investigation said, “The woman declined his proposal, explaining that they had never met in person. This rejection angered the accused. He created multiple fake Instagram profiles in her name and began threatening her.” The officer added that the accused later used AI tools to generate morphed nude and obscene images of the victim and circulated them online. “He shared the doctored images with the victim’s friends and family and even created similar fake images of her female friends, pressuring them to convince her to accept his proposal,” the officer said.

Distressed by the harassment, the woman lodged a complaint at Bavdhan Police Station on Thursday. Acting swiftly, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Anil Vibhute traced the accused’s digital footprint. A team comprising API Ambarish Deshmukh, PSI Bandu Marne, and constables Arun Narale and Swapnil Sabale tracked him down to Karjat, where he was arrested.

Police have secured three days’ custody of the accused for further investigation. The probe is being supervised by PI (Crime) Bhaskar Kadam.
