Pune: PCMC Chief Places Chief Accounts Officer on Compulsory Leave Amid Financial Probe

Pune, 11th April 2026: Amid a probe into alleged irregularities in bill clearances, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has placed its Chief Accounts Officer and Director of Finance Department, Pravin Jain, on compulsory leave to facilitate an independent inquiry.

The decision comes days after a probe was initiated into the clearance of bills worth Rs 52 Crore, allegedly in violation of norms. The civic administration has cited the need for an impartial and transparent investigation. In an official order issued on Friday, commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi stated that Jain would remain on leave with immediate effect until further directions, given the seriousness of the allegations and their impact on financial discipline within the civic body.

Earlier, on April 9, the corporation had constituted a committee led by an additional municipal commissioner to examine the matter in detail. The panel has been tasked with scrutinising payments made by making revisions in the 2025–26 budget as well as allocations under the 2026–27 budget. It will also review similar transactions over the past three years before submitting its findings.

To ensure that the inquiry proceeds without interference and that day-to-day financial operations are not disrupted, the additional charge of the post has been handed over to Pramod Bhosale. He has been instructed to oversee accounting procedures and financial administration as per established norms until further orders.

The controversy surfaced earlier this week when Standing Committee chairman Abhishek Barne alleged that bills worth Rs 52 crore related to development works were cleared in a single day on March 30, bypassing due process. He claimed that mandatory approvals from the standing committee and the municipal commissioner were not obtained.

Following preliminary findings that suggested procedural violations, the civic chief ordered a detailed investigation. The appointed panel has been directed to submit its report within a week, even as the administration faces mounting scrutiny over financial governance.
