Pune PMC Abhay Yojana: Corporators Push for One-Month Extension of Property Tax Amnesty

Pune, 13th February 2026: A demand to extend the deadline of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Property Tax Abhay Yojana by at least one month was raised in the general body meeting on Friday.

Congress corporator Avinash Salve urged the civic administration to grant an extension to the amnesty scheme, arguing that a longer window would help increase revenue collection for the cash-strapped municipal body. He claimed that if the scheme is extended by a month, more citizens will come forward to clear their pending property tax dues, resulting in higher income for the PMC.

Salve said the Abhay Yojana provides relief to citizens by offering concessions on penalties and interest on outstanding property tax. However, he pointed out that several taxpayers have not yet been able to avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits. Extending the deadline would encourage wider participation and boost tax compliance, he added.

Nationalist Congress Party corporator Baburao Chandere also supported the demand. He told the house that extending the scheme would be beneficial not only for citizens but also for the PMC, as it would help enhance revenue collection.

Responding to the proposal, Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar said that a decision on extending the Abhay Yojana would be taken after discussions with the Mayor and the civic administration. He noted that while considering public interest, the issue of revenue growth for the municipal corporation is equally important.

The PMC’s Property Tax Department considers the Abhay Yojana a key initiative to improve recovery of pending dues. Under the scheme, concessions are offered on penalties and interest, encouraging defaulters to clear their outstanding taxes. With the deadline approaching, several taxpayers are reportedly uncertain about completing the process in time. Corporators argued that an extension would speed up tax payments and strengthen the civic body’s finances.

An official decision from the PMC administration regarding the extension of the Abhay Yojana is expected soon.
