Pune: PMC Extends Abhay Yojana Deadline; Property Tax Defaulters Get Relief
Pune, 14th February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended its Abhay Yojana for property tax defaulters by one month, offering relief to thousands of citizens with pending dues. The decision was taken after corporators raised the demand during Friday’s general body meeting.
With the extension, property owners can now clear their pending property tax dues under the scheme until March 15.
The civic body had launched the Abhay Yojana on November 15 to recover thousands of crores in outstanding property tax arrears. Under the scheme, a 75 per cent waiver on the interest component of the pending tax amount is being offered. Officials said the initiative was aimed at boosting PMC revenue while providing financial relief to defaulters.
Earlier, considering the response to the scheme, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram had granted a one-month extension from January 16 to February 15. As the revised deadline was set to expire on February 15, corporators sought a further extension in the general body meeting. Corporator Avinash Salve said the scheme has provided significant relief to defaulters and noted that many citizens are yet to avail its benefits. He urged the administration to extend the deadline by another month.
Corporator Baburao Chandere supported the proposal, stating that extending the scheme would benefit both citizens and the civic body. Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar suggested that the Mayor and the administration should consider the extension in the interest of citizens, adding that it would also help increase municipal revenue.
Responding to the demand, Commissioner Ram assured the House that the administration would take note of the corporators’ request. Subsequently, the property tax department announced a one-month extension of the Abhay Yojana, allowing defaulters to pay their outstanding dues until March 15.
The Abhay Yojana has received a positive response from defaulters. As of February 13, more than 1.35 lakh property tax defaulters have cleared their dues under the scheme. The civic body has collected over Rs 801 crore so far through the initiative. Officials indicated that the scheme was originally scheduled to conclude on February 15, but the administration had been considering an extension in view of the response and pending recoveries.
