Pune: PMC Approves ₹10 Crore for Shivane–Kharadi Road Link

Pune, 14th March 2026: Efforts to ease traffic congestion in the Karvenagar area are set to gain momentum as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved ₹10 crore for land acquisition required to complete a 36-metre-wide Development Plan (DP) road between Rajaram Bridge and Jawalkar Garden. The decision was cleared by the civic body’s Standing Committee, paving the way for progress on the long-pending project.

The proposed road is expected to provide an alternative connectivity route between Shivane and Kharadi and reduce traffic pressure in several parts of the city.

The PMC had originally approved the road project in 2011 as part of a larger plan to create a riverside route between Shivane and Kharadi to ease traffic congestion. However, the work remained incomplete for nearly 14 years due to delays in acquiring the required land.

Local residents and public representatives had repeatedly demanded that the project be completed at the earliest, citing growing traffic problems in the area. In response, the civic administration has now taken steps to expedite the work.

The 36-metre-wide DP road between Rajaram Bridge and Jawalkar Garden had been stalled because around 1,200 square metres of land required for the project had not been acquired. The land belongs to five property owners.

At the Standing Committee meeting held on Friday, a fund allocation of ₹10 crore was approved to facilitate the acquisition of this land. The land acquisition process will be carried out through the PMC’s road department.

With the allocation of funds, the pending acquisition process is expected to be completed soon, clearing the way for the completion of the road between Rajaram Bridge and Jawalkar Garden.

Once completed, the project is expected to provide significant relief to traffic movement in Karvenagar, Warje, Kothrud, and Shivane. It will also help reduce traffic load on the Shivane–Kharadi route and offer residents an alternative travel corridor.
