Real Estate Mumbai:Pune city police have taken legal action against the owner of an apartment in Kondhwa and a real estate agent for allegedly failing to report the overstay of a Nigerian woman. The woman was found to be residing illegally in the apartment, even after her visa had expired.

The Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) of Pune city police received information about the overstaying Nigerian woman residing in an apartment behind Ajmera Hotel in Kondhwa. The FRO promptly shared this information with the Kondhwa police station, initiating an investigation.

A police team questioned the owner of the apartment about the Nigerian tenant. The homeowner revealed that he had rented the apartment to the foreigner through a real estate agent named Adnan Bohra (29) of Bhagyoday Nagar in Kondhwa, as stated in a press release issued on Thursday.

Further investigation revealed that no rent agreement was prepared, and the mandatory police verification procedure was not followed while renting the apartment to the Nigerian woman. According to the norms, the homeowner and the real estate agent were required to submit a C-form, containing details of the foreign national, when renting the apartment.

For failing to comply with these regulations, an offense has been registered against the house owner and the real estate agent under section 223 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and section 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at the Kondhwa police station. Senior police inspector Vinay Patankar confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

The Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) has also initiated action against the Nigerian woman for overstaying her visa. This case highlights the importance of following proper procedures when renting properties to foreign nationals to ensure legal compliance and maintain public safety.
