Pune: Sinhagad Road Flyover's Final Stretch Set to Open, Easing Traffic Congestion

Commuters on Sinhagad Road can finally look forward to some relief as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up to open the final stretch of the flyover. This development is a significant milestone in addressing the chronic traffic congestion in the area.

Two parts of the project, the 520-metre flyover at Rajaram Chowk and the 2,120-metre stretch from Vitthalwadi to Fun Time Cinema, have already been opened to the public. Now, the focus is on the 1,540-metre stretch between Goyalganga Chowk and Inamdar Chowk, which is in its final stages of completion.

According to officials, the majority of the construction work is complete, but some finishing touches are still pending. These include road markings, signage, hazard boards, and junction improvements to ensure safer traffic movement. Streetlights are also being installed to provide proper lighting on the flyover, enhancing visibility and safety for drivers and pedestrians alike.

The transport department has suggested a few changes at key intersections, including Inamdar Chowk, Rajaram Chowk, and Matoshree Chowk, to optimize traffic flow once the flyover is operational. These adjustments are crucial for ensuring a smooth transition and minimizing congestion at these critical points.

Despite the recent rains, which have slowed down the work, civic officials are making every effort to complete the pending tasks quickly. They are committed to opening the flyover as soon as possible to provide much-needed relief to commuters.

The flyover was initially planned to alleviate traffic congestion at the Rajaram Bridge crossing and to ease traffic flow towards Sinhagad Road. It will significantly benefit pedestrians and manage traffic flow, especially during peak hours. The flyover will also allow vehicles to bypass five traffic signals while traveling from Vithalwadi to Fun Time Cinema. The other lane of the flyover will help avoid traffic signals at Bramha Hotel, Anandnagar, and Hingne Khurd.

However, the flyover project faced delays when it was decided to construct pillars for metro stations on the proposed metro route from Khadakwasla to Hadapsar via Swargate. This additional work required careful coordination and planning, but it is now nearing completion.

The completion of the Sinhagad Road flyover is a major step towards improving the overall traffic infrastructure in Pune. It will not only reduce travel time but also enhance the quality of life for residents and commuters who frequently use this route. The PMC is optimistic about the positive impact this project will have on the city's traffic management and is committed to ensuring its timely and successful completion.
