Real Estate Developer Arrested for Multi-Crore Fraud in Mumbai's SRA Scam
Real Estate Mumbai:In a shocking case of fraud, the Amboli police have arrested Jitendra Brahmbhatt, alias Jithubh Barot, owner of M/s Sahajanand Enterprises real estate company, for allegedly cheating 69 individuals out of more than ₹13.05 crores. The accused had promised to redevelop a slum in Andheri West under the SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority) scheme, but failed to deliver on his promises.

According to the police report, a 48-year-old businessman, Amjad Arbani, filed a complaint against Brahmbhatt, leading to his arrest. Arbani's father, Adamabdul Arbani, 82, had been searching for a flat in 2007 when he was introduced to Brahmbhatt through an agent. Brahmbhatt assured him that his new project on Veera Desai Road, Andheri West, would be completed within three years.

Adamabdul Arbani paid ₹67.50 lakhs for two flats, but despite receiving allotment letters, the project never took off. The slum was eventually demolished, and construction started, but the complainant discovered that Brahmbhatt had partnered with Transcon Developers, and not M/s Sahajanand Enterprises.

Arbani and his father repeatedly asked Brahmbhatt about the status of the project, but he evaded their questions. It was later revealed that Brahmbhatt had taken money from 68 individuals, collecting more than ₹13.05 crores in total, without providing any flats or refunding their money.

The Amboli police have registered a case against Brahmbhatt under sections 406 (breach of trust), 409 (criminal breach of trust), and 420 (cheating and dishonesty) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Ownership Flats Act.

Information The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme was introduced to provide housing to slum dwellers in Mumbai. However, the scheme has been marred by corruption and fraud, with several developers taking advantage of innocent people.

M/s Sahajanand Enterprises is a real estate company based in Goregaon West, Mumbai. Transcon Developers is a separate real estate company that partnered with Brahmbhatt for the SRA project.
